** Part 1 **
Leon picked up his intercom. He knew what the problem was
before
the intercom even started to ring.
"Leon here. Whatsup?"
"Leon, it's the chief. A Boomer has shown in the district
south of
Aqua City. I suggest to get there ASAP."
"Yeah, yeah, right, boss."
"And try to get there before the press does, 'k?"
Leon knew it was more Boomer trouble. That's all the AD
Police had
been fighting for the past three weeks. No robberies, no vandalism,
nothing.
Well, nothing human. It was all Boomers. This was starting
to piss Leon off, because regular ammo was useless against these Boomers.
Something was different, like how the Boomers before this three-week spree
had jump jets installed on them. Hm.
"Whattaya suggest? What road would be suitable for this?"
Daley
suggested.
"What else? Direct route," Leon uttered, turning
the ADP car up on
two wheels as he took a wild right turn. Daley flew towards Leon.
"Woah, somethin' up? That's the sharpest turn I've seen,
save for
those Knight Sabers."
That's another thing. No matter where the Boomers where,
the Knight
Sabers were there before ADP. It was discouraging. Leon
checked the
on-board map and saw he had to make another sharp turn. "Brace
yourself."
"Brace yourself for wha---" Daley was cut off as his mouth
hit the
side window. "Ow, that hurt."
"I'll get you a cold pack when we get back to HQ, OK?"
Leon said
in an aggravated tone.
"I didn't know you cared," Daley quipped.
* * *
"Soldier, fighting to kill the wrong," Priss continued to sing
even
though Linna in the audience had already signaled to her that there
was
Boomer trouble. "Soldier, this is the way of love..."
Linna was furious. This was the fifth time this week alone
that
Priss has disobeyed an order. Suiting up in the truck, Mackie
took Linna,
Sylia, and Nene to an inconspicuous place near the incident.
'Where's Priss?" Sylia inquired. "Did she..."
Linna nodded. "Who does she think she is, forgetting about
the
Knight Sabers? She knows this is more important."
"I think she's only doing it for the money," Nene intervened.
"If
the Knight Sabers were hired, say, by the AD Police, perhaps then she'd
take
it more seriously."
"Hm. Nene, do you think the ADP would want to hire us?"
"I dunno, Sylia. Perhaps I could try...!"
* * *
"Damn!"
Leon ducked down behind the car, a blast from the Boomer's mouth
scarcely missing the hood. A bit lower and this car would be
totaled...!
Moving over to the window, Leon saw that the Boomer has flipped a few
cars.
He motioned Daley over to him. "Yo, Daley... it looks like there
might be
casualties. Try to find any still living."
With a sigh, Daley left to circle around. "Right away,
Leon."
* * *
Relena opened her eyes. It was dark. Trying to move,
she realized
that it was not a dream. Her family was in the car and...
Blood. There was blood surrounding her. Oh God, she
thought, No,
not... looking around painfully, she saw bodies. Using one hand
to prop
herself up, she pulled herself along the asphalt to get a better look.
It was her parents. They weren't moving.
Oh God, she thought again. No, no, this can't be... I...
I'll kill
the bastards who did this... She managed to get up onto one knee...
* * *
Daley started to search the overturned cars. Nothing here,
the
Boomer must've thrown them out of the car... Hello? What's this?
He heard
someone moan. There was this small girl, about 14 he guessed,
who was out
of his reach. In fact, this girl was practically underfoot of
the Boomer!
He readied his gun in case it spotted her.
That was when a blast from somewhere in the sky took out the
Boomer's left arm.
* * *
"Watch your aim," Nene shouted. "There's a kid in range
of the
Boomer!"
"Right," said Sylia. Using her visor, she started to aim
another
blast at the Boomer. "Wait a minute... what's that girl doing?"
she noticed,
lowering her arm.
The girl was standing now, but she was glowing. Her skin
had a
light-blue luminescence to it. Raising her arms, she placed them
wrist-to-wrist. The Boomer had taken notice of this, and started
towards
her.
"Soth-aran no tyrie par KONU!" the girl shouted, eyes closed,
deep
in concentration. The colour leapt from her flesh to the palms
of her hands,
where from there a ball of blue light shot right through the Boomer's
gut,
sending its fluid everywhere, collapsing in a heap of metal.
That's when the girl collapsed herself.
"Wow. Did you see that?"
"I don't think anyone could've missed it, Linna..." Sylia said.
Nene just stood there in shock.
"I guess we aren't needed tonight, girls," Sylia said.
"Let's go
home."
Linna and Nene nodded.
* * *
Leon was on the intercom already. "Daley! What was
that?" he
called out to his partner.
"I dunno, but you'd better get this kid some help fast!
She's not
breathing and her heart's wayyy below normal!" Daley administered
CPR while Leon called for the Paramedics.
Waking up in a coughing fit, Relena turned her head away from
the
person holder her and, with spasms racking her body, vomited.
What the hell happened? She thought.
"Leon, get the 'Med here STAT! She's breathing but I dunno
- I
think she may have been damaged internally. Dammit, she's passed
out again!"
* * *
"Mackie, go stop by 'Hot Legs' and see if Priss has wrapped things
up yet."
"Sure thing, sis," said Mackie as he tried his best to keep his
eyes
on the road, and not at the three ladies undressing in the back.
"Hey, Nene," mentioned Linna, "Do you think that the ADP will
be
taking care of that... child?"
Nene nodded. "Who else? What's up?"
"Do you think she could be helpful to our cause? You saw
how she
wasted that Boomer." She mimicked the motion that the child did
before the
Boomer got converted into scrap metal.
"Hm. Sylia?"
"I'm not sure of having a kid of that age in our crew, but still,
I
think we should find out more about her. Nene, try to get into
the roster
for watching that kid."
"Good as done!" Nene winked and motioned an A-OK sign.
Quickly
glancing over Sylia shoulder, Nene shouted "Mackie! Keep your
eyes on the
road!"
Mackie turned around, his face a deep red.
* * *
"Here ya go, Priss. Your paycheck for tonight."
"Thanks." Priss snatched the envelope from the manager's
hand.
Glancing at her watch, she exclaimed "Shit! I worked overtime.
You'd have
better paid me for that."
"Don't worry, it's there. Trust me." The manager
slapped her on
the back.
Yeah, right, thought Priss. Better book it back to HQ.
She leaped
on her bike and burned rubber back to Sylia's apartment.
* * *
Meters whirred, machines hummed, the odd machine beeping in a
steady
tone. Leon walks into the intensive-care unit. "How's she
doing?"
"Better than before. No internal damage, lucky her.
Her body's
stabilized. But it's strange..."
"What?"
"Whatever she did back there, it took a lot out of her.
Almost too
much. It's almost like some sort of last-ditch attempt, you know?"
"Hm." Leon looked at the girl. Besides the fact that
she was in
IC, she was perfectly normal. Pale skin, black hair, blue eyes.
"Any idea
on her identity?"
"Relena Kusanchi, age 15. She and her parents were just
on their
way to something, we guess. Unfortunately, that Boomer had to
screw up
their plans. Both parents were pronounced dead on the scene.
It must've
been some damage it did to them."
"Ugh. I hate nights like this. Hey, wait Daley.
I think she can
hear us."
"How come?"
"She's _crying._"
Leon was right; because Relena heard every word that Daley had
just
said. Dead on the scene... those words echoed through her head
relentlessly,
and as another tear fell she uttered "Mom... Dad..."
"Relena? Can you recall what happened?"
Relena didn't reply. Instead, she turned her head towards
the sound
of Leon's voice and slowly opened her eyes. There was a look
of pleading,
one that makes one give their heart to a person. She closed her
eyes and
passed out again.
* * *
"Priss, why didn't you leave your show when Linna told you to?"
"I wish you'd stop treating me like a child, Sylia. Amy
more early
leaves this month and the manager would've fired me. You know
that."
"Stop it. You know the Knight Sabers get paid."
"Yeah, but only when we're hired!"
"How did you know we weren't?" Linna blurted.
"Enough, Linna. Priss - remember what I said a while ago?
'No
solo jobs'?"
"Yeah. But that was when I was trying to save Sylvie, right?"
"I'm reversing it on you. Listen to Linna when she tells
you to
leave. No buts."
"All right, all right. I'm going to take a shower.
Hey, Mackie,
care to join me?"
"You b--" Mackie jumped at the chance.
"Too slow." Priss slammed and locked the door behind her.
Mackie
dove headfirst in the door.
"What an idiot," said Nene.

Well? Are you riveted yet? :P
I created this story a long time ago, and it disappeared underneath
all my
other papers. However, I already have a Part 2 if anyone is interested,
and if readership continues, I already have Part 3 underway!
Once again,
if you wish to make any comments (flames, positive remarks), let me
know at
Tamahome@tvo.org . Thanks!
